Turning your kids’ iPod Touch into a fun learning center is
easy. There are many application related
to math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, spelling, logic brain teaser,
reading, role play... you name it and you can find it.
Impressive Number of Fun Educational Games for the iPod Touch
Many of the fun educational games are short fun games that can be played anywhere and very good while driving to school for example.
What did I do?
I downloaded some fun applications:
- For spelling: Miss Spell, and Spell it Lite
- For math: basic math, number line and Math Quizzer.
Kids love these games because they are short, stimulating and fun to play. Kids have a go in the car on the way to school, or while waiting somewhere. My kids don’t feel that they are doing homework, math or spelling they just see it as fun short challenges that encourage and stimulate them.
To encourage them to learn about new words, I also added a dictionary, there are several to choose from. You know how kids are when they don’t know the meaning of a word. You tell them to look it up in the dictionary ... they have to go get it, they need to search, they do not always enjoy it and would rather have you doing it.
Having a dictionary on their iPodTouch changed the way they look for word now.
They just love it!
It is fun fast and easy.
Sure they might be losing the benefit of knowing how to search the traditional way ... but they live in a high tech world and need to know how to use it.
The benefits? Now my kids really enjoy looking for new meanings and do it a lot more often than before. One word lead to another at the touch of a button.
Along the way, I showed them how to use their iPod Touch as a PDA. The organizer is a precious tool. They do enter their schedule for the week or month to come. They try to get into the habit of looking at it every day and learn to get ready for the day. It helps them to be responsible, be in charge of what they need to get. They are starting to take the responsibility and don’t wait for mum to do it all.
Doing it on the iPod Touch is more fun and stimulating than on paper. For then it is fun, like a game. It helps them have a better understanding of time. By looking at it they also know for example that today is swimming so they need to get their swimming kids. By being in charge of their agenda, they are becoming better at managing their time and are becoming responsible young children.
These are just few example of how to turn you kids’ iPod Touch into a fun learning center. Browse around the iPod Touch applications and you will find many fun educational games. When the game is fun, kids enjoy the learning.
Remember, many kids will see the iPod Touch as a gaming device, but with our help they can get much more out of it. Help them use it for more things than just games and music.
Hope you will enjoy the experience and let me know!
